JOURNALISM
“A reporter is always concerned with tomorrow. There's nothing tangible of yesterday. All I can say I've done is agitate the air ten or fifteen minutes and then boom - it's gone.”
- Edward R. Murrow
Journalism is a fast-paced exciting industry that informs, questions and seeks the answers to important questions. Words have the ability to change the world. Whether reading about a movie star, or watching international news unfold before your eyes journalism informs the public of what is taking place. It can inspire or invoke tears. As a journalism student, you will learn to report on local and world events for various types of media.
As a Guelph-Humber journalism student you will receive training that will allow you to write for newspapers, magazines and the Internet, as well as gain valuable experience in radio and television broadcasting. You will have access to a state-of-the-art broadcast studio where you will help produce television newscasts. Some of your time will also be spent working on the University newspaper The Radix.
Journalists wear many hats; they need to be editors, writers and investigators; they need to be able to seek out stories and write them to deadline. The Media Studies - Journalism program furnishes an excellent opportunity to try each one on.
