PUBLIC RELATIONS

Publicity is the life of this culture - in so far as without publicity capitalism could not survive - and at the same time publicity is its dream.

- John Berger

In a world were you can find out virtually anything if you google it, the need for good public relations is crucial. As a PR rep your job is to use the media to manage the public image of your clients. From press releases to public events your voice and words will be the first things people look at when assessing the organization you represent.

Governments, businesses and other organizations use various media outlets as avenues to reach the public at large. The PR stream of the Media Studies program at Guelph-Humber will help you learn to write and produce timely and accurate information through courses such as Media Relations, Event Management, and Writing for Public Relations.

As part of the program you will take part in off-campus ventures offering real-world experience in fundraising and event management. This will give you the experience you need to have a career in a industry that is all about relating to people and communicating clearly and effectively.
